Mandrill, a transactional email platform created by MailChimp, provides a customized email delivery service including automated transactional emails used for password reminders, purchase confirmations, product notifications, and more. Although both Mandrill and MailChimp are primarily used to send emails, they both serve a distinct purpose.
The MailChimp email service sends campaigns to various recipients at once, making it especially ideal for marketing purposes. Whereas, Mandrill, a transactional email service sends emails to only one recipient at a time.
With the subscriber-based platform, MailChimp, you can create lists and send campaigns to your confirmed subscribers. Mandrill, on the other hand, does not provide the functionality to save contact lists along with the recipient’s information in the system.
MailChimp & Mandrill Billing
You have three options to choose from when it comes to MailChimp payment plans. These include Forever Free, Monthly Plans, and Pay As You Go. And keep in mind, various features are incorporated into each payment plan to accommodate your needs.
Since Mandrill remains an add-on service to any of the MailChimp Monthly Plans, you have the option to purchase email blocks that provide email credits which recur as a monthly rate.
If you decide to choose the Forever Free or Pay As You Go plans, you cannot use Mandrill with the exception that you switch to a Monthly Plan.
Creating & Sending Emails
If you have no prior knowledge of HTML coding, don’t worry because the easy-to-use platform, MailChimp does not require HTML coding expertise to design campaigns. And the best part is you can schedule and send the campaign directly from MailChimp at your convenience. On the contrary, Mandrill requires that you do have prior knowledge of HTML and API coding to send emails. And an API or SMTP integration is required by Mandrill to send an email.
