It’s hard to remember in today’s ever more connected world, but there was a time when vacation rental software kept to itself, and vacation rental managers had several separate pieces of software, disjointedly helping to run their business. With the release of our first API feeds in the early 2010’s, CiiRUS pioneered what it means to have vacation rental software connections. To this day, CiiRUS is still the only vacation rental management software with comprehensive inventory-share and inter-account connectivity, allowing CiiRUS users to support each other as booking agents and earn extra revenue. We do this through two similar, but ultimately different features: ‘Calendar Sync’ and ‘SuperSite’.
How do property managers determine whether they need calendar sync or supersite technologies? And are both options provided by the property management software? Both methods result in live calendar feeds and connected homes between CiiRUS users, and the software allows a user to have one or both. So, let’s dive into the difference between Calendar Sync and SuperSite technology.
What is Calendar Sync?
Let’s say you’re a booking agent, and you want to place a booking in the home of another CiiRUS user, with whom you already have a relationship. The Calendar Sync feature is for you. The major advantage to this, is that the rules and content from the original property manager are synced into your account, but you have the control to manipulate the content, mark up the pricing, and make the listing your own.
With Calendar Sync, the supplier checks a box to grant permission to the agent to clone homes into their agent account. This gives the agent full control of not only the reservation but also the reservation process. The booking rules set by the master account Property Manager will not be forced, only the calendar is forced. This means that the agent can use their own rates, descriptions, and terms and conditions. It’s very important for agents to be aligned with the property manager in writing their own terms & conditions. Once a booking is placed, all connected calendars are then updated in real-time. This will allow for homes to be sent and received from multiple Property Manager accounts.
What is SuperSite Technology?
Did you know that CiiRUS is the creator of the SuperSite technology?
SuperSite technology allows the Property Manager to send selected homes to either a second website, an external feed or another account on the CiiRUS network (not necessarily owned by you). Each home may have an alternative rate set and description sent to the SuperSite, and the original “master” provider of the home retains full control over the listing, unlike Calendar Sync, which empowers the agent.
Every sale made using a SuperSite connection is always tracked by the system. The agent sale price, net price, and commissions will display on the total booking summary per each reservation made, and various preconfigured reports are available at the Property Managers full disposal.
For instance, a CiiRUS customer wants their main website in English, the second website in Portuguese, and a third in Spanish. Selected homes can then be sent to each site, each with a different description and alternative pricing (also known as a rate set). Another great example is if you manage a few homes from one resort, but you want a website that will display just the selected homes at the resort, then only the homes located in the resort will show.
